Tasmania’s Salamanca Markets
Every Saturday - 8:30AM
Held every Saturday at Hobart’s waterfront, offering a diverse range of woodwork, fashion, Jewellery, ceramics, glassware and food and produce.
Every Friday night between 5.30-7.30pm
An amazingly cool event that's held – free – every Friday night between 5.30-7.30pm in The Courtyard at Salamanca. It's a family-friendly event, so you can bring your kids, but it's also uber hipster and alternative too. Basically, Rektango is about getting your funk on to a local live band – but don't expect any trashy 80s pub cover bands here. It's all about the funk, soul, reggae and blues.

The Burrow at the Botanical Gardens
This one gives you a double-whammy of cool, free stuff, as when you visit the Burrow, you'll also be seeing the Botanical Gardens, one of Hobart's best free offerings. The Burrow is a free community resource located underneath the Visitors Centre at the Gardens. It's a space full of donated books and records, and also includes a large TV screen continually playing Tasmania's best short films. Grab a beanbag and read a book. The Burrow is inspired by the open air library in Germany.
Open Mic Nights at the Duke
Second Tuesday of each month from 7.30pm
Open Mic Nights are just as fun to attend and cheer (or jeer?) on new talent as they are to perform at. If you've got a skill you're dying to share with Hobart, the Duke in Macquarie Street hosts Open Mics on the second Tuesday of each month from 7.30pm. Irish Murphy's in Salamanca hosts them every Tuesday from 9pm.
