Muslim Film Festival, Melbourne
The Backlot Studios Melbourne

The first Australian Muslim Film Festival, is a full day of independent short films made by Muslims, or telling stories about Muslims, from across the world. #MuslimFilmFestival

Our first annual event of the MFF will be limited to short films, yet full of local and international entries for its very first edition!

Our super-cosy venues, the Backlot Theatres, located in the heart of Perth city (Western Australia), as well as in the Arts precinct of Melbourne (Victoria), are a popular host of independent film festivals and cultural events, with a dedicated art-loving audience.

The festival is aiming to promote inclusion, tolerance, and diversity, introduce Muslim stories and culture to as wide an audience as possible, and encourage local Muslim content creators and filmmakers to share their passion.

Our festival was founded to support and promote Muslim independent short films from across the world in its first edition. We recognise how difficult it is to get your short film out there, and find a platform where you can reach the right audience. We aim to promote and provide exposure to these films and organise a fun, morally-valued, and culturally diverse night of indie cinema for filmmakers and cinephiles alike.

Our program will reflect the diversity and opportunities within the Muslim communities in the West and all over the world, through the short film genre, and our goal is to show films that the audience would otherwise have not seen, and leave a lasting impact.
We look forward to seeing your submissions and welcoming you to Australia’s first Muslim Film Festival!
